Frequently asked questions
Answers to the things people ask most.

Is this really free for nonprofits?
Yes — free, forever, no asterisks. We'll cover costs by building complementary tools for grant writers and security vendors who serve nonprofits in this space. You're the demand side; they're the supply side. The tool that finds you grants will always be free.
How do you decide which grants apply to me?
Your answers in the quiz map against the eligibility rules for each grant in our catalog (currently 11 grants — federal NSGP plus state programs in CA, NY, NJ, IL, PA, FL, MA). The rules come straight from each grant's public program documents. If a grant is in the catalog and you appear to meet its rules, it shows up in your report.
What if I'm not sure about one of the answers?
For the “informational” questions (SAM.gov registration, threat assessment), the “Not yet (or not sure)” option doesn't disqualify you. We just surface those as items you'll need to assemble before applying, with links to start. For the gate questions (state, 501(c)(3) status, type of threat your org faces), pick the closest fit — you can retake the quiz anytime.
Do you sell or share my email?
No. We use your email for what you signed up for: emailing your grant report, deadline reminders, and notifying you when new grants are added that match your profile. Nothing else. See our privacy details.
How current is the data?
We monitor FEMA NOFOs and State Administrative Agency pages and update the catalog when cycles open or close. The catalog was last verified on June 3, 2026— same date shown in the site footer. As of mid-2026, most FY26 federal NSGP state windows have closed; the next federal cycle (FY27) will open in early 2027. If you notice something out of date, email us — we'll fix it fast and credit you in the changelog.
What if my grant isn't in your catalog?
The catalog is still growing. We launched with the federal NSGP plus the largest state-level security grant programs. If you know of a program we should add (state-level security grants, foundation grants for security, anti-hate-crime funds), tell us — we'll prioritize based on how many nonprofits it would help.
Can you help with writing the application itself?
We can help you think through it. After your grant report lands in your inbox, the “Tell us about your nonprofit” link opens a short form where you can share what you're working on. We follow up personally with cases where there's a fit — threat documentation, narrative review, finding the right grant writer. Self-serve application-writing tools and a verified grant-writer directory are next on the roadmap.
Why does the federal NSGP require SAM.gov registration?
Every federal grant requires the applicant to be registered on SAM.gov with a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI). It's how the federal government tracks who's receiving public money. Registration is free and takes about 7–10 business days, so start now if you haven't. Most state-only grants don't require it.
What's a TVRA and how do I get one?
A Threat, Vulnerability & Risk Assessment documents your organization's specific risk profile. Most security grants require one. Good news: they're typically available free from your local FBI field office, local police department, or community-based security organizations (like the Secure Community Network for Jewish orgs and similar groups for other communities).
