Florida Nonprofit Security Grant Program

Administered by the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Bureau of Preparedness. For acquisition and installation of security equipment on property owned or leased by the nonprofit. Total annual funding is set by the Florida Legislature each year, so award amounts can vary significantly cycle to cycle.

To apply for the FL-NSGP, your organization generally needs to be:

• ✓A registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
• ✓Located and/or incorporated in Florida
• ✓Able to document a risk of terrorism / violent attacks and hate crimes

• 501(c)(3) status from the IRS

  Federal tax-exempt status. Required for almost every security grant. If you don't have it yet, the IRS Form 1023 process can take several months.

• Investment Justification narrative

  The heart of the application — explains the threat, your mission, the proposed mitigation, and how you'll sustain it after the grant ends.

• Budget Detail Worksheet

  Itemized budget mapped to allowable cost categories. The grant administrator usually provides a template.

• Target hardening (cameras, doors, fences)
• Construction or renovation for security

• •The state FL-NSGP has been dormant since the FY2023 cycle — no new state round is open as of mid-2026. Florida also has a SEPARATE federal NSGP pass-through (FEMA money, a different program with a July 24, 2026 federal deadline). Don't confuse the two.
• •Funding amount shown ($150K) reflects the historical state cap; the actual total depends on the annual Florida Legislature appropriation.
• •Open to houses of worship, schools, museums, community centers.
