Administered by Washington State Department of Commerce
- Washington's Commerce program names nonprofit community centers — and nonprofit by-and-for organizations, meaning groups run by and for the community they serve — whose members, sites or visitors have been targeted for bias or hate crimes. Commerce does not name museums or cultural institutions, so a museum, JCC or senior center should confirm its category with the Washington State Department of Commerce before applying.
- Commerce does not require an IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter from a community center, but the applicant must be a nonprofit. Verify your category with WA Commerce.
