Georgia's nonprofit security grant is open, and it only pays for people now

Georgia's Funds for Protection of Communities reopened for FY27 with $5 million — but the FY27 notice drops equipment and funds security personnel only.

Georgia's Funds for Protection of Communities (FPC) is accepting applications again. The FY27 round opened on 1 October 2026, and the application form gives a deadline of 30 October 2026.

A note on that date: the funding notice and the GEMA/HS page both say 31 October, while the application form itself says 30 October. Treat 30 October as your deadline. If the two disagree, the earlier one is the one that can cost you.

What changed since the last round

Two things, and the second one matters more than the money.

  • The pot grew. The 2026 round offered $3 million. FY27 offers about $5 million.
  • Equipment is out. The earlier round funded target-hardening equipment — cameras, doors, lighting. The FY27 notice's allowable activities are personnel only: contract security guards and officers, contracted law-enforcement details, and overtime.

If you were planning a camera or door-hardening project on the strength of last year's round, that project does not fit this one. The money is for staffing a person at your site.

Who can apply

Georgia 501(c)(3) nonprofits at risk of a terrorist or extremist attack, or with identified security concerns. A single facility may request between $25,000 and $150,000.

What to do in the next three weeks

  • Read the funding notice before you write anything — the allowable-activities section is where the personnel-only change lives.
  • Price the actual staffing: hours, rate, and who provides the officers. A budget built from real quotes beats an estimate.
  • Have your vulnerability assessment ready. It is what connects "we are at risk" to "this is the post we need staffed", and it is the part applicants most often leave until last.

The 2026 round ran for only two weeks and the notice warned that late applications would not be accepted. This one is longer, but not by much.
